“Dark Horses are a leather clad, neo rock, outfit whose name is proudly emblazoned upon their black motorcycle jackets” reads the band’s biography- and it’s true too! If you look at the band’s promotional pictures, the whole unit is sporting a sleek, yet rough, biker jacket reading Dark Horses on the back, making them look like a motor city gang. In the past the group has toured with both Kasabian and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and that exposure, paired with the energy of their latest single “Radio”, makes the group a force to be reckoned with… or at least one to watch out for. Expect to hear more from Dark Horses as they ride on into the future and stream “Radio” below.

Rumor has it that a dying two year relationship served as the catalyst both for Kamtin Mohager’s move to LA and for the writing of The Chaing Gang of 1974‘s forthcoming release, titled Wayward Fire. It’s a shame that art often comes from terrible/painful things but I think that’s what separates good art from bad- you’ve got to feel it. Am I right?

“Teenagers” is Mohager’s way of reliving heartbreak through the eyes of a child over a track that reminds me of late 80′s, edgy, pop like Prince and as it starts up I want to sing “When doves cry” really bad.

With Neck Of The Woods having been released just recently, Silversun Pickups are beginning to pick things up with their first video for the single “Bloody mary (Nerve Endings)”. The video itself is a pretty standard rock offering, showing the band playing in a bunch of unnatural settings that include both deserts and television studios. I always think videos are kind of awkward for that reason. They should just shoot footage of the band actually playing the song on tour or in a specific place, to a click track that will keep them on time, and then match the audio up later. I feel like it would look more natural.

Florence + The Machine have recently released the official music video for the new single, titled “Spectrum”, from their latest album Ceremonials. The video spotlights everything that is recognizable about the Machine’s sound which, not to take away from the role of the actual band, is Florence herself- and she is displayed in full, theatrical, glory through the length of the video.  David LaChapelle & John Byrne directed it and the dancers/lights/effects certainly show that Island is giving Florence the star treatment. I’m a little bit confused as to why there is a light shining out of her undercarriage at some points in the video, but maybe you can figure it out below:

Andrew Bird has been an indie legend for as long as I can remember and rumor has it that his latest LP, titled Break It Yourself, is his best work yet.  My girlfriend and I have been listening to it on and off during our car rides lately and I’d have to say that it’s a rumor I can totally get behind. I’ve always loved the orchestration involved with Andrew’s music- song writing with a depth above and beyond a guitar part and melody- and at times feel like I’m listening to the soundtrack of a play or some theatrical performance. The ability to steal me up and out of the present moment is what keeps me in tune with Andrew Bird’s music and makes me super excited about the release of his new arts-and-craftsy video for “EyeOnEye” . Directed by Yu “Ewan” Morita and produced by the Japan-based creative team NAKED INC., the video is made in such a way that it appears to have the texture and softness of felt.

Austin Texas band Wild Child are a six membered band that is the epitome of the folk evolution the world has been experiencing for the past two or three years. As the “hippie” stereotype of the genre diminishes we are able to more clearly see a virtually unexploited genre of modern music that is easily embraceable by a wide audience. Bands like Town Hall, The Tallest Man On Earth, and First Aid Kit are becoming part of a growing scene rather than artists trying to swim alone in a big ocean. It’s been an awesome few years for music because of that.

The reunited Afghan Whigs appeared live on Fallon for what was their first performance in 13 years. Recently they’ve announced a slew of tour dates which will make 2012 a busy, fan pleasing, year.
